Descloizite
Berg Aukas Mine
Otjozondjupa Region, Namibia
7.0 cm x 4.8 cm x 3.8 cm
Out of an old collection, come this outstanding small cabinet specimen of this under appreciated mineral.
This Zn-Pb-V mine which closed in 1978,
is said to have produced the finest specimens of descloizite in the world.
This is one of those specimens.
This is a large cluster of Descloizite crystals,
with very well defined faces and edges.
These blade like tabular crystals reminds me of Dragon scales.
This is a dense but hollow cluster,
the bottom shows many vugs within the specimen.
There are multi generations of formation, from the first near the base,
thousands of micro transparent to translucent brown bladed crystals.
The larger crystals are a mix of transparent to translucent
reddish brown bladed crystals,
and brown with a metallic sheen
that can look silver depending on the lighting.
This is a very well defined specimen that is very 3 dimensional.
Just a perfect specimen with zero damage,
just a very few micro chips that cannot be seen without magnification.
A top quality, unique and attractive specimen.
