He is a very unique specimen of Herkimer quartz from this well known mine.
Two large herkimer quartz crystals make up this beautiful specimen.
It is all natural, no re-attachment or repair on this one.
The bottom, elongated crystals has a unique crystal shape with the termination bent like the nose of a hawk, hence the term "Hawk Nose".
This "hawk nose" termination, is when it occurs as a double termination such as this one,
which shows the termination tips pointing in opposite directions, one curved up and the other curved down.
This bottom crystal has a base that is perfectly flat, it must have formed against another large crystals.
Both bottom and top crystals are very clean and have a slightly smoky coloring, and a few rainbows can be seen in the crystals along with some hydrocarbon inclusions.
It is so hard to get good photos of this specimen, since the crystals are so clean, you see everything going on the backside.
The front side of the crystals are sharp and well formed with no damage or contact.
The rear has some matrix attached, contact points (mostly on the top crystal) and one blow out, which can easily be seen through the front of the crystals.
Overall a beautiful and unique Herkimer Specimen.
