Sulfur on Aragonite with Calcite
Cozzo Disi Mine (Cozzodisi Mine)
Casteltermini, Agrigento Province, Sicily, Italy
16 cm x 13.7 cm x 6.0 cm, 2.02kg / 4.07 lbs
Out of an old collection comes this amazing plate of sulfur crystals on a matrix of aragonite and calcite.
The Cozzo Disi Mine is well known for its world-class sulfur specimens.
Beautiful large canary yellow sulfur crystals, up to 3 cm in length, sit on this thick matrix plate.
They have nice, lustrous faces, and many are double terminated.
Most of the crystals are quite transparent and overall in great condition, seeing just how soft sulfur is.
There are a few slight contacts to a few of the crystals, but very hard to see.
The color in the video looks washed out; the photos are what they look like in person.
The thick matrix of aragonite and calcite is very heavy and is very fluorescent under longwave UV lighting.
There are some small sulfur crystals on the back side, but nothing major.
I will include the easel type stand if the buyer wishes.
Overall, a large, showy, and quality specimen from the 1970s.
